Dear Family,
The carnaval parade was pretty cool. The people go crazy for carnaval and they make big huge elaborate costumes. They make them out of plastic bags, plastic cups, dried leaves, toilet paper rolls.....they put a ton of time and work into it.
We waited around for like 2 and a half ours to see the
parade but it was worth it. It was cool. Technically it´s my only
independence day here in the D.R. since I´ll be home for the next one
and it was my first and only opportunity to see the carnaval parade. as
far as independence day goes there wasn't a lot to show that it was
independence day. there weren't any military in the parade. there were a
few flags hung here and there but not like 4th of July back home.
Apparently they go all out in the capital with military parades and it´s
a bigger more noticeable deal but here in small town Cotui there wasn't
a lot to see in that regard.
It´s been a good week. Not a lot of exciting things have happened. I started using sunscreen!
Mom
I know that you´ve always been so proud of your missionary that is not
like so many that only writes two sentence emails on p days but this one
is gonna be short. I love you all and love all the emails and letters
that I get that give me such fun and interesting and needed insights
into your life.
