Hello Family,
the first picture is Isaac our favorite little Dominican.
Anni-Leidi´s Baptism
Elder Johnson and Anni-Leidi
A Lizard
Father and son haha
IT´S HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!we are currently on the face of the sun sweating our butts off. The heat is crazy! and apparently it´s going to get a lot hotter. Why do people live here?! haha. no but seriously it is very warm here and sweat is my constant companion. I did get a haircut on monday so that helps a little.
Last Wednesday as I told you we had p-day Santiago which means we get to go to Santiago and Price smart which is basically costco in the D.R. and is the only place you can buy planters peanut butter and welch´s grape jelly and let me tell you, toasted PB&J´s are awesome and that probably sounds dumb after I just told you how dang hot it is to be eating a warm sandwich but their awesome. You gotta enjoy the simple things in life and mine right now happens to be PB&J´s. We also split a very large pizza that i felt a little sick after eating.... After price smart and stopping by the mission office to drop off mail we went to la calle del sol (sun street) which is just a crazy maze of streets where there are like a million venders selling everything you can think of especially shoes. I was able to find some fun trinket things and I sent them home in a package. I hope you get the package and everything is still in it when it gets there.....It was fun to barter with all the people with prices and different things. Elder Johnson is a professional barterer and did a lot of the bartering for me. He saw a really cool belt buckle of the D.R. flag that he wanted (for after the mission of course) and I really like it too so Elder Johnson bartered with the guy and I bought it and gave it to him for his birthday and father´s day: his birthday is one week from tomorrow and he´s my dad in the mission. hahaha. All in all it was super fun and I want to go back again. Also the last two weeks I have sent letters to Nikelle, Home, Katie and Jonathan (Nikelle´s Aunt´s son who was recently baptised) with peso coins in them and I learned after the fact that it´s a "universal rule" not to send money, especially coins in the mail......so I hope they all get to you.....I´m not really sure what that means, I figure it just means that there is a chance that the won´t make it you.
On Saturday we had the Baptism of Anni-Leidi and it was crazy: filling the font, baptismal clothes not fitting, trying to find other baptismal clothes that are too big, being unorganized.....insanity. But it all turned out fine and she is baptized and was confirmed on Sunday. On Sunday i also had the opportunity to give a blessing of comfort to Lewis Vincente hildalgo Vasquez (he had to tell me his name like ten times and I had to rehearse it like twenty times to remember it and get it right) he has tests in school this week along with a few others we gave blessings to and it was a good experience. So now I have Annointed in spanish, given a blessing for the sick in spanish, and given a blessing of comfort in spanish. wow.
On monday we had the last new missionaries meeting and upon arrival Pres. Lee shook my hand and said "Elder Robinson how are you?"
"good"
"how is your health"
"great"
"You need a haircut tomorrow. You are not a hippie, you are a missionary"
hahahaha. A loving lecture from Pres. Lee. So I did get a haircut that night and Elder Johnson has clippers so I slapped a 4 on there and went to town. Everything was going swell until I decided to shave some of the hair off my neck like mom does when she is finishing cutting my hair. Well I had this thought that I should get Elder Johnson´s help but I just went for it and ended up shaving the hair off my neck all right like half way up my neck. hahahaha. Fortunately Elder Johnson knows a little about cutting hair and was able to save me, he tapered the back and made it look good. Thank goodness......funny experience.
I´ve been reading the conference ensign and everyone needs to read it! there were so many amazing talks given this last conference and mayber it´s because I´m a missionary and watched it as a missionary but I got so much out of it. Read it!
We have one investigator: Oscar who is studying medicine so he has a crazy schedule but he was able to change it some so that he can come to church on Sundays and right when we thought things were looking up and he was for sure going to get baptised a few days ago he told us that a little religion is okay right now but he doesn´t have time for it. He said he´ll keep reading the Book of Mormon and come to church sometimes but he can´t join the church right now because he won´t be able to keep the covenants he will make in baptism. He said that he is sacrificing peace right now to study and work and he´ll have peace later which essentially he is telling us that he will join the church when he retires.....We are going to keep teaching him and we hope that his eyes will be opened and he may see that it´s not too hard and that he can do it. Kinda frustrating but mostly sad that he is just kinda giving up for now because it seems too hard.
A couple days ago I was going to get in the shower and there was a lizard climbing on the walls so I chased him down and caught him as you can see by the picture. He was cool and almost whiter than me. haha.
